The College of Engineering has specialized services dedicated to supporting you as your progress through the curriculum, connect to campus, gain professional experience, and prepare for graduation and the many opportunities beyond. 

Engineering Career Services

Engineering Career Services helps with all facets of a student’s job search. Once registered, students have access to the hundreds of employers and thousands of interview opportunities that pass through the ECS office every year.  Unlike traditional hiring venues like the commercial job boards or online ads, the employers recruiting engineering talent through ECS are here specifically because they want to hire Ohio State engineering students.

In addition to ECS’s robust on-campus recruiting and job posting system, they also provide personalized assistance with resumes, job search documents, interviewing, job search strategies, offer review, salary negotiation, and more!   Additionally, ECS offers workshops, facilitates employer networking opportunities, and provides educational materials on all things job search.  Whether students are trying to land the perfect internship or co-op—or about to graduate, ECS have services to meet their needs.

Women in Engineering Program

The Women in Engineering (WiE) Program at The Ohio State University was established in order to increase the participation of women within the engineering profession. The WiE program fosters a supportive learning environment and culture within the College of Engineering and beyond.  In partnership with corporations, faculty, students and alumni, educational and community organizations, WiE’s mission is to work as a change agent to increase the number of women pursuing engineering degrees and entering the workforce as engineering professionals.  The WiE network includes innovative and exciting programming to introduce women and girls to engineering opportunities and to support women in reaching their full potential.

WiE works to foster a sense of community among female engineering students and professional female engineers. Students have the opportunity to join groups focused on topics such as professional development, diversity, exploring engineering majors, K-12 outreach, and community service. Several events are hosted throughout the academic year to provide additional opportunities and support to students within the Women in Engineering community.

The course Engineering 1195 is a Women in Engineering seminar offered during Spring Semester. The course is one-credit hour and graded S/U. The purpose of this course is to provide all engineering students with a dynamic, hands-on experience working with engineering professionals, K-12 students and peers.

Minority Engineering Program

The mission of MEP is to ensure that the talents of previously underrepresented ethnic minorities are included in the engineering profession so that an adequate supply of engineers is available to meet the manpower needs of our community, state and Nation; and to assure that all engineering students understand and appreciate diversity as prerequisites for optimum achievement in an increasingly diverse and global society. The program works to expand the participation of underrepresented ethnic minorities in the College of Engineering and in the engineering profession. Services are offered to students enrolled in the College as well as outreach to prospective students.

MEP has four student organizations: the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers(SHPE), and Lambda Psi Honorary. These four organizations work in cooperation with the MEP Office to promote collaborative learning and professional development through peer support activities that enhance the academic, professional and social environment of their members.

Student Project Teams and Organizations

Many students enhance their academic career by becoming involved in student project teams, honor societies, and other organizations. These activities can provide leadership opportunities, hands-on engineering experience and a chance to meet other engineering students. In addition to building lasting friendships, student organizations provide many benefits including serving as a medium for academic discourse, personal growth, leadership development, intercultural understanding and community service. Moreover, research suggests that involved students tend to perform better academically and are more likely to graduate when compared with their non-involved peers.

There are over 1,000 official student organizations at Ohio State, with hundreds housed in the College of Engineering. These include both interest organizations and engineering project teams.

Student Project Teams: Student project teams bring students together to utilize their collective experiences, perspectives, and creativity in order to solve engineering problems, reach goals, or create something new! Examples include the Aero Design Team, Big Beam Team, and the Buckeye Bullet.

Honors Societies: Honor Societies provide members with academic, professional, and social opportunities through the local chapter and association with national alumni. Honor societies works to increase professional development among members, promote networking, and encourage community and campus involvement through service and social events. Many honor societies are major-specific and seek to recognize academic excellence.

Other Organizations: If your student has an interest, there is likely an organization of students who share that same interest! Everything from discipline-specific professional organizations the Game Creation  Club are established by fellow engineering students. We strongly encourage your student to explore interests and connect with others within the vibrant community student organizations.
