Failure to complete all the items on this checklist may result in a delay of your graduation.
1. Apply to graduate by the deadline.
Graduation applications must be submitted two semesters prior to your anticipated graduation date. After submitting your application, notify your College of Engineering departmental advisor regarding any changes to your projected schedule of classes and/or your anticipated semester of graduation. Please note that you will need to submit a new application to graduate if you change your plans and decide to graduate in a different semester.
2. Check your OSU Email Account regularly, and read your emails in detail.
The College of Engineering will send important information directly to your OSU e-mail account throughout the semester you plan to graduate. Be sure that Jamie Paulson (firstname.lastname@example.org), Graduation Coordinator for the College of Engineering, is considered a “safe” sender, and that the account is not full and is accepting emails. If you forward your OSU e-mail to a private account, you may not receive important e-mails regarding your graduation. To remove the forwarding, go to the OSU Email Account Management page at my.osu.edu, select the "Change Delivery" link, and follow the instructions.
3. Review your Degree Audit.
After you have scheduled your classes for your final semester, run a Degree Audit from Buckeye Link. Instructions and help for running and reading Degree Audits is available at http://registrar.osu.edu/degree_audit/index.asp. During your semester of graduation, all sections of the Degree Audit Report should be highlighted in green, showing "completed" and "in progress" coursework. Any sections highlighted in red should be brought to your departmental advisor’s attention immediately.
4. Read the Graduation Booklet and Candidate Information emails in detail.
You will receive a "Graduation Booklet" email during your graduating semester. The email will contain important information and instructions regarding your commencement. Shortly after, you will also be sent an email with your individual information, which you will need to review for accuracy.
5. Visit commencement.osu.edu.
Detailed information about the Commencement ceremony for both graduates and guests can be found at the commencement website. Be sure to review the information on this website in detail as it becomes available. This is where you will find details about attire, invitations, rehearsal, parking, and other common questions.
If you will not be attending the commencement ceremony, submit the Commencement Ceremony Absence Excuse Form to 122 Hitchcock Hall. The form must be submitted at least two weeks prior to Commencement.
6. Report your post-graduation plans.
