Each semester, you will be enrolling in a new set of classes for the upcoming term. This process can be easy or stressful, depending on how you prepare. Here are some tips to make your scheduling process go smoothly as you move through your curriculum!

Tips for Scheduling

Remember that scheduling is an ongoing process, not a one-time thing. Departments add more sections of classes and students add and drop courses from the start of scheduling all the way through the first Friday of the term. When you are able to schedule, enroll in the classes you need. If the class you need is full, add yourself to the waitlist and contact an advisors. Check your OSU email and the OSU class search regularly, as new seats may open up in other sections that you would like to add.

Check course requisites before scheduling a class. If you sign up for a class, you are verifying that you will have met the course requirements by the time the class starts. Your instructors will assume that you have mastered the content from any prerequisite courses and will build upon that material.

Always choose to enroll in an open class over waitlisting a full class. While departments try to accommodate all course demand, waitlisting a class does not guarantee that you will be able to enroll in it. If you see an open seat in a class, even one at a less desirable time, take it!

Do not schedule courses back-to-back. Make sure you have 10 to 15 minutes between classes so you can get to your next class. If you schedule your classes back-to-back without any travel time, you risk putting yourself in a situation where you have to arrive late or leave early from a class. This could lead to losing time for exams, missing points for assignments, and adding stress to your interactions with fellow classmates and the instructional staff.
